Scottish Standard Distance Championships 2017
I was looking forward to racing the Scottish Championships at my home venue, although also apprehensive as it was the middle of my last big training block for Ironman Barcelona, but I still had podium ambitions!
All too soon and in the water waiting for the start, of we go and it was far more frantic than a long distance race, full pelt for the first few hundred metres glad I had my Kayenne goggles so siting and vision wasn’t a problem, the #phantom wetsuit was fast, keeping up with the top swimmers far longer than normal, a great swim with a 35sec PB over the distance! Into transition and the phantom came off as quickly it swims. Lots of great comments about the flashy blue #phantom wetsuit! 3rd in Age Group so far.
Onto the bike and the legs are saying you’re a long distance triathlete what are you doing to me! A windy technical bike course put the energize speed skin to good use, I passed 2 and was passed by 2 so all square by the end of the bike. The run course was largely off road (and I must say a bit evil!) with a long uphill section complete twice, there were a few dead turns which were great so I could see how far 4th place athlete was behind me, I ran steady for the first lap and let the gap close by 1minute and then went hard to the end for my first Scottish Championship podium finish.
Thanks to Aqua Sphere for supporting me with the #phantom wetsuit, bring on Ironman Barcelona!
